Central Highlands: mount Kenya alpine journey
High-altitude trekking & unique Afro-alpine ecosystems.

I reached Point Lenana tired, elated, and small in the best possible way. Mount Kenya doesn’t give itself up fast; you earn the moorland, giant lobelias, and the thin cold air. The routes (Sirimon, Chogoria, Naro Moru) each have their moods: Chogoria’s lakes and dramatic scree, Sirimon’s more gentle acclimatisation, Naro Moru’s straight shot. The mountain’s Afro-alpine ecology felt otherworldly - stone, silence, and the shimmering of equatorial glaciers above you.
What to do:
Multi-day treks to Point Lenana (typically 3–5 days), photographic walks on lower slopes, and guided nature interpretation. Official park gates serve the main routes. Kenya Wildlife Service+1
Special features:
Equatorial glaciers, Afro-alpine moorland, and dramatic ridgelines are found nowhere else in East Africa.
Vacation types:
Adventure trekking, training, and serious nature immersion.
Practical tips:
Book guides and huts ahead; nights are cold, pack warm layers; Chogoria is the most scenic route for photography.
